 Tourism is the main economic industry of the municipality ,in fact , it is thanks to tourism that it´s population has been multiplied since the sixties.
Description
 Altea is placed in a bay closed by Punta Albir and Morro del Toix. N-332 road crosses Altea and it has an exit to the A-7 railcar.
This municipal district borders on others districts which are; Alfaz del Pi, Benisa, Calpe , Callosa de Ensarriá , Jalón y La Nucía ..
Craft
Handicraft techniques remains yet in some workshops for the production of furniture and footwear. Anyway, Altea welcomes ,in the Square of the Church of the Virgin del Consuelo , a sample of handicraft products arrived not only from other points of the district or the country, but also from other places of the world, this happens at Easter and in the summer.
Gastronomy
The sea and market-garden produce play the lead on the gastronomy of Altea with a wide full variety of meals .Among the typical ones, we can point out the snails with onion, the “cruet de peix “, the sea urchin , the rice “a banda” or the "empedrat." Among the obrador specialties it stands out the ”coca a la lluma” and the “ coca farcida”.

Their Moorish and Christian festivities in honor to the patron Saint Blas take place at the end of September the same as the the celebrations of the Christ.
In August, for San Lorenzo's festivities is carried out a firework castle where it is even shot from floating platforms in the sea.
Museum Navarro Ramón - Paintings rooms
The house of culture takes in , in a permanent way, an exhibition of painting with the work of Navarro Ramón. The centre has two other rooms that are used for temporary samples.

Monuments
It conserves a part of the small municipal village with remains of a castle and the church of the Consolation. The Beach, the seafront and the port are this tourist population's main attributes. Also, Altea has the honor of being described by important personalities (as artists, politicians, singers, etc.) as being one of the most beautiful towns of the Costa Blanca, and of Spain in general. It also has an important sample of handicraft.
Torre de la Galera ,declared a Good of Cultural interest , was part of the watchtower coastal net but nowadays it is a particular property. In this case, it has a round plan and after it was restored they incorporated modern elements.
- Stronghold of Bernia
It was built in 1562 under the direction of the Italian engineer John the Baptist Antonelli. This construction purpose was the surveillance of the Moorish population that had risen up in several occasions. It was demolished in 1612. It is an enclosure of square plant, with pentagonal plant bastions in it´s four vertexes, with a typical Renaissance construction.
- Tower of Bellaguarda
This tower was part of the extensive watchtowers net that alerted from the enemies incursions to the coast. Nowadays it has been remodeled.

Beaches
Altea has more than 6 km of coast where cliff areas and small creeks are mixed with small beach plots in flat land. The main ones are :
L'Olla. has an old tradition of summer holidays place since the beginnings of the century. In front of the Olla the “Illeta” juts out from the sea ,a small island at 500 m from the beach that, like a great conch juts outs from the waters, attracts the navigators to admire the beauties of this corner. Cap Negret has pebbles and clean waters,and it is very popular for it´s calmness.
