The traditional agricultural activity is due to the great fertiily of the land as a consequence of the abundant waterin the river, but this is progressively being abandoned in favour of residential and rural tourism.  However the almond and olive oil industries are being conserved.

A municipality with an ample territory sourrounded by mountains and crossed by the River Amador which, in its day, poroduced two resevoirs:  One of the same name and theother is Relleu resevoir, now not in use.  The other geographical element that charactises it is the enormous gully of La Cueva.

There are various interpretations regarding the origin of thename RELLEU.  It could come from Valenciano and allude to the type of countryside.  It could also refer to the resting of horses that used to take place in this place.  It could be the name of a village in the Pyranees.  The expulsion decree to the Moors in 1609 dramatically affected thetown, which fled to the mountain. Around the castle, built by the Muslims, a town grew which became the most populated in the area, with 3.342 inhabitabts at the beginning of the century, thanks to the fertility of the River Amadorio which provided water for its orchards.

Almazara de Aceites is stiuated within the town and this where the oil can be acquired.  On Saturdays there is an antique market.

TYPICAL DISHES  Paella Valenciana.  Cocas farcidas. Fassseures. Olleta de Blat.  Sale of almonds and  oil.

In the first week of August there is the tomeria of San Albert to the hermitage of this saint.  The major and town festivals in honour of the Virgin del Milagro and saint Cosme and Damian, at the ned of September, decorations in the streets and fireworks.  On Christmas Eve “les aixames” which are torches made of reeds which the people take into the streets.

The abandoned resevoir from XVII century. In the Sierra del Aguilar we have the hill of Beneceit .  Also one can go from Relleu to Cabeco d’Or o to the Sierra Aitana.
